Route Overview
Longridge Long Ride Rotary Sportive
The Longridge Long Ride Rotary Sportive is a fundraising event where proceeds are used to support local charities through the Rotary Club of Longridge & North Preston.
The event is run entirely by volunteers who cover their own costs, meaning all funds raised go into the Rotary Club and are distributed to local good causes. Last year we raised just over £3,000.
There are three route options, each using wonderful quiet roads with fantastic scenery and characterful villages — with the longer routes taking in the iconic climbs of the Forest of Bowland, including the Trough of Bowland and Jubilee Tower (Quernmore).
The Routes
🚴 Short Route
Approx 68 km | 990 m climbing
A scenic, achievable route that still delivers a proper day out in the countryside.
From Longridge, the route heads north into Bowland country before reaching Dunsop Bridge (the split point from the longer routes). From there it turns west and crosses through Tosside, before rejoining later and continuing through Wigglesworth.
The return section takes you back into Lancashire via the attractive villages of Bolton-by-Bowland and Waddington, before the final run back to Longridge.
A great choice if you want a shorter challenge while still enjoying quiet roads, big views and classic Ribble Valley villages.

🚴 100 km Route
Approx 117 km | 1,700 m climbing
A full sportive experience and the “classic” Bowland loop.
The 100 km route heads beyond Dunsop Bridge and climbs through the iconic Trough of Bowland, before passing Jubilee Tower (Quernmore) with its spectacular views across Morecambe Bay and towards the southern Lake District.
The route then continues via Caton and on to Wray, where the feed station is located in the village hall (toilets available, plus tea and coffee this year).
After Wray, the route heads towards Settle, passing through Wigglesworth, and then returns into Lancashire via Bolton-by-Bowland and Waddington, before finishing back in Longridge.

🚴 100 Mile Route
Approx 167 km | 2,470 m climbing
The flagship endurance option — longer, tougher, and brilliantly rewarding.
The 100 mile route shares the same Bowland highlights as the 100 km: Dunsop Bridge → Trough of Bowland → Jubilee Tower (Quernmore) → Caton → Wray (feed station).
From there, it heads north into Yorkshire to Chapel-le-Dale, then loops back to Wray for a second visit to the feed station, before following the same return as the 100 km route towards Settle, through Wigglesworth, and back into Lancashire via Bolton-by-Bowland and Waddington to Longridge.
A proper big day out: quiet roads, huge scenery, and a genuine sense of achievement at the finish.
